Full details of position
Donors established several new scholarships in 2008: The Jack Stefanski Athletic Scholarship in memory of the New London Public School physical education teacher; the Patricia C. Norman Scholarship for students graduating from Ledyard High School and planning to pursue a career in music; the John Deligeorges, M.D. Memorial Scholarship for an East Lyme student to study science; and two Carl Jr. and Dorothy Croft Safford Scholarships, one for study at the University of Connecticut School of Engineering and another for a graduate of Fitch High School who will study science.
The foundation manages more than 50 named scholarship funds, and over 25 years has given more than $2,360,000 in scholarships.
An eight-member committee reviewed 223 applications from students at 13 local high schools and numerous colleges. Sakina King, chair of the foundation's scholarship committee and a foundation trustee, said it is the largest number of awards to date.
