"Thán từ" tên gọi lớn cho một từ nhỏ. Thán từ là những câu than ngắn như Oh!, Um or Ah! Chúng không có giá trị ngữ pháp nhưng thường xuyên được dùng đặc biềt là trong văn viết.
Thán từ không thay đổi cấu trúc ngữ pháp của một câu. Đôi khi có dấu chấm than (!) đằng sau thán từ trong văn viết.
